Agawa
Canyon
is World Famous for it's rugged beauty and the Chapleau
Wildlife
Preserve is the World's Largest Wildlife Sanctuary. These two great
natural attractions are connected by the Algoma Central
Railway
for a unique 2 day rail excursion.
Board the Agawa Tour Train in Sault Ste. Marie at 8:00 a.m.
and
enjoy the hardwood forests of southern Algoma on your way to
Agawa
Canyon. The towering cliffs, sparkling waterfalls and the
beautiful
serenity of the Canyon will delight you during your 2 hour
stopover
at Agawa Canyon.
At about 1:30 p.m. board the Algoma Central Railway's
passenger
train in Agawa Canyon and continue north into the boreal forest
of northern Algoma. Late in the afternoon you will reach Lake
Wabatongushi, the second largest lake in the Chapleau Wildlife
Preserve. There you will be met by Al Errington and taken on a
15 minute pontoon boat ride to Errington's
Wilderness Island Resort where you can

After you
settle
into your very comfortable suite,
enjoy a delicious dinner in our licensed
dining
room. After dinner you
can relax around the resort, go for a walk on some of our
nature
trails, or enjoy a guided boat tour of Lake Wabatongushi for
wildlife
viewing.
There has been no hunting or trapping inside this 3,000
sq mile (7,000 sq km) wildlife sanctuary since 1925 and you have
a good chance of seeing wildlife in their native habitat such
as moose, black bear, bald eagles and Loons. After returning to
the resort, relax and let the haunting cries of the Loons lull
you to sleep.
Next morning enjoy a sumptuous breakfast, then do a little more
exploring of the area either on your own or on another guided
tour. Around 11:00 a.m. we will bring you to meet the passenger
train for the scenic return journey to Sault Ste. Marie.
In 2010 this 2 day excursion can be reserved for departures on
Thursdays, Saturdays, Mondays from June 8 to September 21.
Because
of the need to transfer between trains, luggage is limited to
2 carry-on pieces per person. Due to limited availability,
