A Great Place to go Bird Watching in the Boreal Forests of Northern Ontario Canada

When people think of birding, or bird watching, in Canada's Northern Ontario boreal wilderness, the Loon usually comes to mind first. And we do have lots of loons and they are one of our more fascinating neighbours. Our boreal forests are also home to numerous warblers, sparrows, waterfowl and birds of prey.Loon with chick under wing

We have over 120 bird species, many of which are particular to our region, or are only found in Ontario Boreal forests.

We have trails which go through different habitats in our area and we also provide boats, kayaks and canoes for exploring the many wetland areas.

Other wildlife viewing, like moose and black bear watching, is excellent also. We are completely inside a 3,000 square mile (7,000 square km) wildlife sanctuary, the Chapleau Game Preserve. The Chapleau Game Preserve is considered to be the largest wildlife sanctuary in the world. Since 1925 the only hunting allowed in the wildlife sanctuary, is with a camera. Sightings of Moose and Black Bears are very common.
Our web site contains further information on our resort and area.

Birding or Bird Watching Books

coverThe Sibley Guide to Birds
(Audubon Society Nature Guide Series)

From Scientific American
"For birders who cut their teeth on Roger Tory Peterson's Field Guide to the Birds, that book seemed definitive, like the King James Bible or Bogart and Bergman in Casablanca. But it's a new millennium, and David Allen Sibley and the National Audubon Society have produced an impressive new Guide to Birds.
From Popular Science
"Sibleys book contains full descriptions of all 816 North American Species...paintings show plumage in every stage of development, for both sexes..."
