Fishing In 1998
Catch & Release Trophy
For the sports persons who released the
Largest Walleye and Largest Northern Pike
1998 was a very good year for large walleye releases. Our winner
this year is Russ Meyer who released a 29.5" Walleye last
spring. This is Russ's second time winning our Gentle Fisherman
trophy. Russ spends a lot of time on the water both here, his
17th straight year, and back home in Wisconsin. He is a very talented
fisherman who firmly believes in the benefits of Catch and Release
and slot sizes in Lake Wabatongushi. Every year he says the fishing
keeps getting better and better.. He, along with his buddy Dan
Colligan, released numerous Walleye and Pike back into the lake.
 Tom Nelson was the winner
of our Titus trophy for the largest Northern Pike released. He
released a 38" Northern Pike in late August. This was Tom's
first year here with his wife Melissa. They were expecting a baby
in a few months. Tom's fishing prowess and Melissa's father Paul
Knuth's expert guiding on the lake landed this prize fish. Tom,
and his wife Melissa recently had a baby boy whom they have named
Paul after Melissa's father. He will undoubtably be a fisherman
with his ancestry.
This year we would also like to recognize the people who released
the next 4 largest Walleyes and Northern Pikes. They, along with
the winners of our trophys. will receive a 10% discount on their
next visit to our resort.

Greg Conley actually had to release that 27" Walleye twice.
It was right back on the hook within 10 minutes of the first release.
As a special mention, some of you would remeber a chimunk who
had elevatd itself to pet status with the help of some of our
nature loving guests, not mentioning any names, Len and Jana.
One of our groups designed a method of capturing this friendly
creature using a rod case and a trap door if only to scare the
bejesus out of Russ Polena. You may remeber him from our phot
Album, the guy who lost a fishing bet the year before and had
to wear baby doll pajamas to the lodge. Jerrry Urbaniak recieves
the catch and release award for releasing a 7.5" squirrel
back on the island. We love the plans for your trap, Jerry and
I'll buy you a drink next time if you release it on another island
next time.
