Catch and Release Fishing 2000
The Largest Walleye Caught and Released
in 2000 was 30" long and was caught by Wade Stamper in the
Van Sickel Party. Wade had a very hard time catching her and
she was also difficult to release because of the stress. We thank
Wade for his sportsmanlike efforts.
The largest Northern Pike Caught and Released
was 40" long and was caught by Don Cline. Don has been visiting
us with Dick Liddicoat and his group for over 25 years. They
are a fun group and we esspecially appreciate the fine singing.
Dick and Don have been heavily involved in Barbershop Quartet
singing for as long as we can remember.
A Notable 1st
this year for Bill Brown. We have many guests who have hooked
or snagged rocks before but Bill is the first person I know of
to have actually landed one. Congratulations on your 5.75"
Rock Fish. I don't think his wife Michele has any intention of
competing with him in this league.
Below are the 5 largest Northern Pike and
5 Largest Walleyes released in 2000. Besides thanking all of
these tremendous sports people for releasing these large fish
we will also be presenting them with a 10% discount on their
next vacation at our Wilderness Island Resort. Releasing large
fish is important for 2 reasons. They are usually females which
means they can produce a lot more fish, and they are genetically
larger which helps increase the average size of the fish population.

Every year we give away 40 10% vacation discounts
to our guests who participate in our Catch and Release program.
10 go to the people above who released the largest Northern Pike
and Walleye. The other 30 go to people who are randomly drawn
from the 100's of entries in our Catch and Release log. Every
time guest releases a Walleye over 16" or releases a Northern
Pike over 24", they are eligible to enter that fish in our
Catch and Release log book. The 2 red squirrels which were relocated
from the Duquette cabin to Timberwolf Island do not count.
