2004 Catch and Release Fishing Awards

Our two big winners in last year's Catch and Release program were Andy Staubach and Al Skully. Andy Staubach won our Gentle Fisherman Award for releasing the largest Walleye in 2004. Al Skully won the Titus Trophy for releasing the largest Northern Pike in 2004. Also, each of our guests who released one of the 5 largest Walleye or 5 largest Northern Pike in 2004, receive a 10% discount on their next vacation at our resort and we have a random draw from our catch and release program for an additional 40 recipients of 10% discounts on their next vacation.

This was Andy Staubach's first visit to our resort. Having caught a 31" Walleye, he may be talking to his father about another trip. We hope the 10% discount he has won with our Gentle Fisherman Award helps. Long time guest, Dennis Hathaway, was not far behind Andy with a great 29" Walleye.

Al Scully has been coming up first thing in the spring for a number of years now with very long time guest Dick Liddicoat who released a 37" Northern Pike. Ernie King and Bob Green came really close to beating Al Scully's 38" Northern Pike.

We are very happy to present each of the 10 people who caught and released the biggest walleye and northern pike in 2004, a 10% discount on their next vacation at our wilderness island resort.

Large fish are almost exclusively females. With Walleye especially, it is now generally accepted that the larger the female is, the more successful spawner she is. They do not necessarily produce as many eggs per pound but their eggs are larger and healthier with a much higher viability, hatch success, and health. They also tend to be genetically larger which increases the growth rate of the population.

We really appreciate all of our guests enthusiasm for preserving the quality of fishing on Lake Wabatongushi. To encourage catch and release of larger fish we have a random draw from our Catch & Release log book for forty 10% discounts on their next vacation. Below are our forty 2004 random recipients of 10% Catch and Release discounts on their next vacations.
