2005 Catch and Release Fishing Awards

Last year was great weather and great fishing. We had a lot of large walleyes and northern Pike caught and released and everyone caught more than enough smaller fish to eat as well. There wer a lot of great shore lunches last year.

Catching and releasing the large fish has really enhanced the fishing in Lake Wabatongushi over the years making fishing very easy and fun. We really appreciate all the dedication and care all of our customers have shown which ensures fishing in Lake Wabatongushi is easy and fun.

Our two big winners in last year's Catch and Release program were Ann Egan and James Pett's Sr. James Pett's Sr. won our Gentle Fisherman Award for releasing a 29" Walleye, the largest Walleye released in 2005. Ann Egan won the Titus Trophy for releasing a 40-1/2" Northern Pike, the largest Northern Pike released in 2005. Each of our guests who released one of the 5 largest Walleye or 5 largest Northern Pike in 2005, receive a 10% discount on their next vacation at our resort and we have a random draw from our catch and release program for an additional 40 recipients of 10% discounts on their next vacation.

Northern Pike Fishing

Large fish are almost exclusively females. With Walleye especially, it is now generally accepted that the larger the female is, the more successful spawner she is. They do not necessarily produce as many eggs per pound but their eggs are larger and healthier with a much higher viability, hatch success, and health. They also tend to be genetically larger which increases the growth rate of the population.

We really appreciate all of our guests enthusiasm for preserving the quality of fishing on Lake Wabatongushi. To encourage catch and release of larger fish we have a random draw from our Catch & Release log book for forty 10% discounts on their next vacation. Below are our 40 random draw winners of 10% Catch and Release discounts on their next vacations.
